Green Card

The green card is something that the whole world is crazy about. It is the United States permanent residency card. It give you US Citizenship and you can become a proud citizen of the United States of America with a green card. To get hold of one, you can follow different methods.

The green card is called green card after a document called "I-151" which was used in the post-World War II years for the immigrants. Although the card is somewhat yellow but the name green card is still being used.

One have to go a 3-step process to apply for a green card.

Step 1 - Approval of petition: The application for a green card is accepted by the USCIS. There are various criteria for authorization depending on the country of the applicant. Apart from some rare circumstances, the applicant must have a relative or an employer to qualify for the applicant.

Step 2 - Immigrant Visa Number: For the process to continue the immigrants visa number must be available. The number of immigrant’s visas are limited every year and that’s a problem and they are distributed between all the countries so some countries have a larger number available for them. This can take very long. The exception is that you have an immediate relative like your parents living there.

Step 3 - Adjustment of Status: The immigrant has to go to his embassy to adjust his citizen status and become a permanent after the visa number is available.

There are various methods of application.

So in the end, becoming a US citizen is not very easy. But if you have the skill you can obtain an immigrant visa.
